The Story introduction
These letters, exchanged between Edward Bennett of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and his wife, Margaret Bennett of Halifax, span from June 1944 to the summer of 1945. Preserved carefully by their family, they offer a rare glimpse into the everyday lives of Canadians divided by the Second World War: the soldier on foreign soil and the loved one waiting at home.
The war is often remembered in headlines, statistics, and battles. Yet here it is lived on paper — in the mud of Normandy, in the blackout nights of Halifax, in longing, fear, and enduring love. Ed’s words reveal the grit of combat and the weary hope of a soldier pushing east through France, Belgium, and into Germany. Maggie’s voice shows us the other front: ration books, Red Cross shifts, the restless harbour, and the strain of waiting.

Our prepaid story subscriptions are priced at $120 plus tax, while monthly subscriptions are available for $12 plus tax per month.
In regard to shipping, we offer free shipping within Canada.

Please note there are no duty fees associated with our letters, with the exception of the first letter, which is shipped as a package rather than standard mail and may incur customs fees depending on your country’s regulations.

Each story consists of 24 letters sent over a period of twelve months.
